Atmospheric Secondary Particles In Near Earth Space
نویسنده
چکیده
In June 1998, the Alpha magnetic spectrometer AMS [1] had a test flight on board space shuttle and recorded some 108 events. The AMS proton and leptons spectrum [2, 3] have a magnetic latitude dependence. The spectral shape of primary cosmic rays can be explained by the geomagnetic rigidity cutoff. However, below the rigidity cutoff, a second spectrum was clearly seen. The energy of this second spectrum is as high as 6 GeV, 10 times higher than previous measured energy in the radiation belts! Beside this apparent difference, these second spectrum particles have similar trajectories as particles in trapped radiation, however, the fate are quite different. The discovery of these GeV sub-rigidity particles create new questions about the radiation belts and the atmospheric neutrinos flux. In this article, the trajectories of these particles are simulated in the same condition as AMS. They are shown to explain the complex behaviors of these secondary particles.

Performance Evaluation of the High-altitude Launch Technique to Orbit Using Atmospheric Properties
The purpose of this paper is to perform the feasibility and performance evaluation of the High-altitude launch technique using high altitude atmospheric Properties to near earth orbits. The current propulsion transportation system from Earth to space has been deemed by many to be expensive, unreliable, and an unnecessarily dangerous means of travel to space. It is suggested in this paper to ana...

The first AMS flight in June 1998 on board of the space shuttle Discovery at an altitude of approximately 380 km unveiled unexpected features of the cosmic rays spectra below the Earth geomagnetic cut-off. In addition to a secondary flux of particles at all latitude, a ring of high energy particles (up to 6 GeV) and an anomalous ratio e+/eas high as 4 was observed near the geomagnetic equator. ...

متن کاملSolidEarth: a new Digital Earth system for the modeling and visualization of the whole Earth space
Although many of the first-generation Digital Earth systems have proven to be quite useful for the modeling and visualization of geospatial objects relevant to the Earth’s surface and near-surface, they were not designed for the purpose of modeling and application in geological or atmospheric space. There is a pressing need for a new Digital Earth system that can process geospatial information ...
